TESS & JAY

November 5, 2016

SWANNANOA, NC

Approx. 15min outside of Asheville

OUR STORY

October 06, 2012. My roommate Stephanie's birthday. It fell on a Saturday and in true fashion for us those days she wanted to participate in a one day kickball tournament hosted at Piedmont Park for her birthday celebration. We were short the guys needed to field a team so she opened up the recruitment encouraging friends of friends to join. Enter Jay, Stephanie's friend's friend's friend... who also happened to have a girlfriend at the time, womp womp... but I thought he was SO cute!

Jay and I remained good friends, evenutally both single friends, and Jay admittedly started to like this girl Tess...

Around 6 months after kickball day I made a crazy decision to travel to Nepal with a friend to trek to Everest Base Camp because why not?  A pretty intensive undertaking required a lot of training and the best training for a trek is exactly as you might guess, just hiking... a lot... Jay was the only one that would go with me on a moment's notice to hike every Saturday leading up to the trip.  And Tess admittedly started to like this guy Jay too...

Not but a few weeks after I returned from my trip, Jay took me out as a celebration of my birthday and what turned out to be our first date, November 5, 2013, a frigidly cold night that of course we agreed walking a deserted Beltline to Fritti in Inman Park was still way better than driving. Pizza has always been our favorite treat!

On July 17, 2015, Jay surprised me proposing on top of Stone Mountain the night before we left for a previously planned two week trip to Japan. Talk about an amazing way to celebrate an engagement.

All too fitting that by pure coincidence November 5, 2016 we will be bringing together all of our friends and family to celebrate turning that first date into forever.  We can't wait!!

Amanda "Canoodle" Shearrow

Amanda "Canoodle" Shearrow

Matron of Honor I can best summarize our friendship as those friends you refuse to play Pictionary with: she knows the answer before my pencil even hits the paper. "How did you guess Statue of Liberty?! IT’S JUST A LINE." Amanda just gets me :) In college we probably spent more time together than I did my own family, even still I think our friendship has only grown closer. In a list too long to write, I think the heart of it is our identical sense of humor. We’re the funniest people we know.

Katy Miller

Katy Miller

Bridesmaid Katy and I have known each other since we were 6 years old! Katy is the friend that will listen without judgment. She’ll do stat hw with you for hours. Run your first half marathon with you in Vegas. The one that makes sure you get a cake and a card on your birthday. She’ll be there every time you need her and she'll always make you feel special. How do you summarize 24 years of friendship in just 500 words? You can't. Katy is just awesome.

Stephanie Page

Stephanie Page

Bridesmaid Stephanie is a close friend from the fraternity. We became great friends when we lived in the frat house together our senior year, but that was really only the beginning. Steph has been my roommate and partner in crime since college – kickball, Butch Walker concerts, late night Totinos pizzas and PERU! Stephanie has a zest for life and inspires me to do the same. Up for anything, anytime. I can best describe our friendship as an adventure, and every bit of the fun I had in my 20s.

Ashleigh Oatts

Ashleigh Oatts

Bridesmaid I am so so lucky that Jay has an older sister, Ashleigh. Not only have I always wanted a sister, but I get to have one that is my own age! Ashleigh and I first bonded over our shared love of musicals. Needless to say Jay hates… err tolerates them... so on top of many things, I think we both agree one of the best parts of gaining a sister is a guaranteed friend to go to every musical for the rest of our lives!

Allison Palm

Allison Palm

Bridesmaid Allison and I met living on the same hall in the dorm our freshman yr. To say we became instant friends is an understatement. It started with the same taste in music, the only girl I knew that could play the guitar and even wrote her own music! She was my inspiration to learn to play myself. Many nights talking ‘til 5am led to what I know now to be a lifelong friendship. Even if months pass without catching up, the conversation still flows as if we'd seen each other just yesterday.

Jill Barry

Jill Barry

Bridesmaid The story of how Jill and I met is the best way to describe our close friendship. We met in a volleyball league after college. I wanted a friend to go on a trip with me, and having never spent a moment talking off the court, I invited Jill and she said “sure, why not?” Not a lot of people can stand to vacation together – family, close friends – but Jill and I did as strangers and have been great friends ever since. Jill also inspires me with her courage as an on stage improviser!

Erin McNicholas

Erin McNicholas

Bridesmaid Our similar interests are a testament to my friendship with Erin: by chance I sat next to her in Accounting at UGA and we quickly realized we were both Marketing majors, pledging the same fraternity, and applying to the same leadership program. We sat next to each other at the same first job the first 5 yrs out of college! Erin is the friend you call when you’re having a bad day. She always knows how to make me feel better - she grounds me, motivates me and then makes me laugh!

Jonathan Magoon

Jonathan Magoon

Best Man Jonathan and I have come a long way from designing highly technical Egyptian pyramids in 6th grade social studies. We have known for a long time that we would be each other's best man one day and it just so happened to fall in the same year. Although we live far apart, we still try to meet up a couple times a year and it gives me a great reason to take a long weekend to Denver to go skiing and tour breweries. Ask him about: The plight of the Tennessee Titans

Tommy Wasmund

Tommy Wasmund

Groomsman Tommy and I have been math and science nerds since we met in middle school. We decided to extend this streak by going to Georgia Tech to become top engineers. We are both far too competitive in anything that could be classified as a game. Ask him about: Spreadsheets

Drew Coleman

Drew Coleman

Groomsman Drew is my soon to be brother-in-law and we bonded very quickly over discussions about Star Wars and Batman. He, Tess and I toured Japan and climbed Mt. Fuji. We also enjoy a nice autumn Sunday watching the NFL on the Coleman's back porch. Ask him about: Why Batman vs. Superman is the worst movie ever

Andy Powlen

Andy Powlen

Groomsman Andy and I have been friends since meeting on the Georgia Tech track team. We were roommates for many years and share the same taste in comedy. A while back he invited me to a "kickball thing" although he only knew one person and I knew none. This friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend situation would later be remembered by Tess and I as the day we first met. Ask him about: Lifting heavy things

Shaddi Hasan

Shaddi Hasan

Groomsman Shaddi is probably the most well-rounded person I know and bears a striking resemblance to a college photo of Stephen Colbert (look it up). We met in middle school and occassionally enjoy esoteric discussions about computer networking. Ask him about: Anything. Seriously anything

Andrew Richardson

Andrew Richardson

Groomsman Andrew is a wildcard and I never know what he is going to do next. He is an endless source of entertainment and always up to something fun. I am certain he can speak French better than I can speak English. Ask him about: Bumper stickers

Travis Tillman

Travis Tillman

Groomsman Although Travis and I were in different grades growing up in Knoxville, we would become friends in college when everyone came home for breaks. We spent many summers practicing back-flips off each others shoulders in swimming pools. Ask him about: Drawing up football plays on his stomach
